Recoleta Cemetery, Buenos Aires

Recoleta Cemetery is unlike any other cemetery in the world. It is home to Argentina's super wealthy. A plot here sets you back US$20000 per square metre. Now the resting place of politicians and celebs, it is all about wall to wall statues and pomp. Evita has found her final resting place here....after her second burial. Her body was corpse-knapped shortly after her original burial and later resurfaced in Europe. Returned to Argentina it was interred in Recoleta...where it still rests- in 27 feet of concrete.....to be sure it doesn't go walkabout again.

But there is more than pretty statues to be seen. This is also home to the severely macabre. Long forgotten tombs with smashed in entrances guarded by one eyed cats afford curious visitors an uncomfortably close-up view of the contents of the caskets.

Notice the shadowy spectre .....could it be Evita?

My, what a handsome ghost!
